We’re going to do single leg straight kick, a great exercise for abdominal strength and pelvis stability, the muscles needed to help protect your lower back.

This video has not been modified for injury or chronic pain issues. Please talk to your doctor before beginning any exercise routine. You want to skip this exercise if you are in any acute pain in your back or neck.

All right, so we start on our backs, in a tabletop position. On the inhale we prepare, and on the exhale, we go into the upper ab curl as we extend our legs. Make sure that you really feel the front of your abs working, and the deep neck flexors. You don’t want to feel any strain in the back of your neck or your upper back.

Inhale twice through the nose, exhale twice out the mouth, and switch legs. All the while, making sure that your pelvis isn’t moving.
Lower your leg down only as far as you can without your pelvis shifting.

The purpose and intention of this exercise is to stabilize the pelvis. Keep the pelvis very still, that way you know you’re effectively working your deep stabilizing muscles.

It’s not about how low the leg goes, or how high the leg goes. It’s really about what you can do to maintain the stability of the pelvis and keep the integrity of the front line of the body working.

You don’t want to feel any strain in the back of the neck, in the upper back, or the lower back. You really want to feel like this exercise is happening all in the midline of the body.

When you feel that ache and burn, rest and do another set if you’re up for it.

That’s the single straight leg kick.

Doing the same exercises day in and day out is boring, and you will quickly find yourself losing motivation. This is why you should change the type of workouts you do. With on a treadmill, a great way to increase the intensity is by running instead of walking. Keeping your exercise routine varied means that you will stay motivated and reach your fitness goals.

When you’ve managed to reach a goal you’ve been striving towards, do something special for yourself. The reward you choose doesn’t have to be something elaborate; you may be motivated by something small and simple. Grab a low calorie soda or give yourself a home facial. Pick an item that is easily available, but you have been avoiding. As long as you don’t go overboard with rewarding yourself with sweets or other unhealthy foods, you will feel more motivated to continue losing weight.

People never feel bad after exercising, right? The toughest part is to get yourself up and to the gym and to realize that exercising is not a chore but can, in fact, be pretty fun.
