Checking In – Strange Aberrations

Starting: 264

I find it interesting that the very things we set up to help ourselves – like blogs – are the first things we tend to give up when we get depressed.

Is it the feeling of lack of self-worth? Are we ashamed to admit that things aren’t going well? Are we so lacking in self-confidence that we think we will be a bother if we ‘complain’ about things on the very space we set up to do so?

For me, I don’t like admitting that I’m not happy. I don’t like bringing other people down, so I’d rather try to suck it up than admit to tough times. Even though I know other people have been through my tough times. Even though I know people here would/will support me. Even though I know people will understand.

Yet, it is my habit to withdraw and not ‘burden’ other people.

The difference today is that now I’m pissed. I’m angry at myself for believing in such bullshit. This is my space that I set up to help me and to not use it as such is just bullshit.

So it goes like this.

I’ve eaten a lot. I’ve eaten when I wasn’t hungry because that’s what I do when I’m depressed. The difference this time is that I’m not deriving any comfort out of it. (Newsflash: Yeah, food did make me feel better.) The fact that my ‘tried and true’ comfort mechanism isn’t working has left me feeling lost and helped to continue the feelings of melancholy.

I refuse to gain any more weight back, though. I can’t. If I do, I’ve lost everything I’ve fought for and I know I’ll go back to a dark place in my mind that I do not want to go to again.

I’m going back on the meal replacement stuff until I feel like I have regained control of my eating. I won’t do things quite as strictly as last time and will allow myself whatever raw fruits and veggies I want. But that’s it.

I may not be in a good place mentally, but that doesn’t mean I can’t take back control of my eating. It doesn’t make me feel better anymore anyway, so I may as well ditch the habit.

Hopefully this will be the exact thing I need to start feeling better.

Friday Funny – Little Johnny Wants a New Bicycle

Little Johnny went to his mother demanding a new bicycle. His mother decided that he should take a look at himself and the way he acts. She said, “Well Johnny, it isn’t Christmas and we don’t have the money to just go out and buy you anything you want. So why don’t you write a letter to Jesus and pray for one instead.”

After his temper tantrum his mother sent him to his room. He finally sat down to write a letter to Jesus.

Dear Jesus,
I’ve been a good boy this year and would appreciate a new bicycle.
Your Friend,
Johnny

Now Johnny knew that Jesus really knew what kind of boy he was (a brat). So he ripped up the letter and decided to give it another try.

Dear Jesus,
I’ve been an OK boy this year and I want a new bicycle.
Yours truly,
Johnny

Well, Johnny knew this wasn’t totally honest so he tore it up and tried again.

Dear Jesus,
I’ve thought about being a good boy this year and can I have a bicycle?
Johnny

Well Johnny looked deep down in his heart, which by the way was what his mother really wanted. He knew he had been terrible and was deserving of almost nothing. He crumpled up the letter, threw it in the trash can and went running out of the house. He aimlessly wandered about depressed because of the way he treated his parents and really considered his actions.

He finally found himself in front of a Catholic church. Johnny went inside and knelt down, looking around, not knowing what he should really do. Johnny finally got up and began to walk out the door and was looking at all the statues. All of a sudden he grabbed a statue of the Virgin Mary and ran out the door.

He went home, hit the statue under his bed and wrote this letter:

Jesus,
I’ve got your mum. If you ever want to see her again, give me a bike.

You know who

First Ever Monday Mailbag

I went to get the mail this morning – something I quite enjoy doing as I review books, am a member of PostCrossing, and do swaps with people from all over the world – and I was disappointed to find a single letter. A bill (most likely). For my husband. (Mwhahaha… Oh, we both pay the bills. Hrmph.)

Well, that little bit of disappointment got me thinking that it can be the same way for many of our virtual mailboxes on our blogs.

And I plan to solve that.

Welcome to the first ever Monday Mailbag. This is where you pick up your weekly letter from yours truly, answer it on your blog, and leave a note here so everyone who participates can read your response. Easy peasy! So consider this your first reader letter.

This week’s reader question from YOUR Monday Mailbag is this:

When and why did you get started on the journey to lose weight/get fit/tone up/the whole nine yards?

Tell me the date, time, epiphany, reason, episode of Oprah, whatever was involved to start you on your way. Go into as much or little detail as you want.

And remember to leave a link to your response in the comments section! The whole point of this is to reach out, connect, and find out more about
