Secret Desires

[X-posted to The New Australian]

I’ve always wanted to be a beautiful singer. I can sing; I just don’t do it well. It’s always been a dream of mine to have the confidence to stand up in front of people and belt out something beautiful…

I want to sing this:

(Here You Come Again – Dolly Parton)

And this:

(I Won’t Say I’m in Love – Hercules)

And this, even though it’s a duet:

(Light My Candle – RENT)

And if my life was a musical? This would so happen:

(La Vie Boheme – RENT [my absolute favourite musical, by the way])

And now I throw it open to you…

Do you have any secret desires? Something you want to do but are afraid to?

Please don’t tell me I’m the only one who has one… Dancing? Singing like me? Or maybe painting? Featuring your work – whatever it may be – in a gallery or at a fair?

What do you dream of?

Checking In – Here You Come Again

cupAll you gotta do is smile that smile
and there go all my defenses…

Starting Weight: 264
Last Week: 224
This Week: 224

Pounds Lost: 40

The Bloke isn’t the kind of man to give empty compliments. If I ask him if something makes me look fat/bad/frumpy, I can trust that he will tell me honestly.

Now, some women might prefer to have a man who says, “Hey beautiful” and doles out the compliments (heck, I still like it occasionally when other guys do it), but I would still rather have the trust that I have with The Bloke.

One reason? Well…

A couple days ago when I was in a goofy mood and came dancing out of the bedroom wearing my corset-style tank top and into the lounge, The Bloke turned and looked at me with this little smile on his face. Then he said, “You know, you’re looking really good lately. I’m really starting to see your curves.”

I honestly don’t think that would have meant as much if I had a husband who just heaped out the compliments or lied to me because he was afraid I couldn’t handle the truth.

Honestly, I don’t feel beautiful or sexy that often, but man… After he said that, I truly felt like a sexy, curvy woman. What a great feeling.

So, it’s with that in mind that I acknowledge the not-so-great things I have done that led to no loss this week and feel even more motivated to do better by my Self this week.

To health!

Mild Concussion

This is a magpie.

magpie

This is a magpie diving on a human.

magpiedive

This is where I where I should have a picture of what happens to your head when a magpie divebombs you and you’re not fortunate enough to be wearing a helmet.

X

(Sorry.)

I didn’t take a picture because one, I didn’t feel like it and two, it wasn’t that bad. I turned my head enough to get a thud and scratch to my head rather than the temple gouging I think he was going for.

Anywho, after an interesting day losing a bit of my vocabulary, going in and out of nausea/dizziness and trying to bake when short term memory wasn’t that great, I’ve been trying to take it easy this weekend. I still have my headache, but the rest has fixed itself.

Just a warning, though: when it’s spring in Melbourne, be careful about young cocky magpies and don’t wear black and white scarves. Okay?

Green Smoothie Pause

Well, last night didn’t go at all as expected (I’m now baking two pans of brownies and a batch of ANZACs for Friday night, if that’s any clue to how weird (but good) it went), so I didn’t get the chance to get the ingredients that I want/need for smoothies. So… it’s going to have to be a weekend project.

Still, I’m quite looking forward to it. I never thought I would, but the thought of getting all that fruit and veggie goodness in a drink is proving quite the motivation. I’m going to focus on grapes, lime juice, lemon juice, spinach leaves, cos lettuce and a few other veggies I have in the fridge.

It should prove interesting, but it could just be the chef in me saying that…

Let’s just hope my blender is up to par.

Go Green Smoothie Time?

When I was younger, I would always be the first to tell people that I could never make it as a vegetarian. Meat tasted so good, and I didn’t see why I should make myself stop eating something I liked that wasn’t – in most cases in my parent’s household – bad for me.

Of course, I was young and didn’t realize all the things vegetarian can mean and the various reasons why people do it.

A little bit older and a tiny bit wiser, I’ve started getting to know food production and what kinds of things go into our meat. I’m proud to be a free-range buyer (as ‘organic’ is just too easy to play with in terms of marketing) and have embraced fruits and vege with new passion. As I have gotten rid of the so many toxic things in my diet, my tastebuds have changed and I’m enjoying every minute of it.

Earlier this year, I still would have told you that I would not give up meat/seafood. I don’t eat as much because I don’t live in the hunter-esque way of life that depended on hunting season meat to get us through the winters when money was tight, but I still enjoy it. (Especially kangaroo, which is not that cute and extremely good for you with little fat content… That’s another subject, though.)

ANYWAY, going on meal replacement earlier this year has taught me that, yes, I can live without meat and not really miss it. Go figure.

With that knowledge and following along with Hanlie’s blog, I’ve been thinking more and more what it would be like to embrace fruit and vege in a way that I never have before. Sure, I’ve stepped away from meat and eat plenty of fruit and vege, but I’ve never made fruit/vege my focus.

This post from Hanlie, for some reason, pushed me ‘over the edge’ in regards to green smoothies.

Times are changing, and in the words of many great Aussies… I’m gonna give it a go.

Meal replacement is great, but it’s not meant to be permanent. However, it is the perfect time to start establishing habits with fruit and vege because they’re both allowed. You’re only supposed to have certain amounts, but I’ve never obeyed that anyway because what’s a bit more healthy stuff?

So tonight I’m going to stop by the shops and pick up some stuff (I have the vege but not enough fruit) to make my first ever green smoothie for dinner…

Wish me luck.
