Friday Funny – Priceless

Jack wakes up with a huge hangover after attending his company’s party. He is not normally a drinker, but the drinks didn’t taste like alcohol at all. He didn’t even remember how he got home from the party. As bad as he was feeling, he wondered if he did something wrong.

He forced himself to open his eyes, and the first thing he sees is a couple of aspirins next to a glass of water on the side table. And, next to them, a single red rose!

He sits up and sees his clothing in front of him, all cleaned and pressed! He looks around the room and sees that it is in perfect order, spotlessly clean. So is the rest of the house.

He takes the aspirins, cringes when he sees a huge black eye staring back at him in the bathroom mirror. Then he notices a note hanging on the corner of the mirror written in red with little hearts on it and a kiss mark from his wife in lipstick: ‘Honey, breakfast is on the stove, I left early to get groceries to make you your favourite dinner tonight. I love you, darling! Love, Jillian’

He stumbles to the kitchen and sure enough, there is hot breakfast, steaming hot coffee and the morning newspaper.

His 16 year old son is also at the table, eating. Jack asks, “Son. what happened last night?”

“Well, you came home after 3 A.M., drunk and out of your mind you fell over the coffee table and broke it, and then you puked in the hallway, and got that black eye when you ran into the door.”

Confused, he asked his son, “So, why is everything in such perfect order and so clean? I have a rose, and breakfast is on the table waiting for me?”

His son replies, “Oh THAT… Mom dragged you to the bedroom, and when she tried to take your pants off, you screamed, ‘Leave me alone bitch, I’m married!’”

Broken Coffee Table $239.99
Hot Breakfast $4.20
Two Aspirins $.38

Saying the Right thing, at the Right time:

PRICELESS

Walking Day Five – I Love Dogs

german shepherd puppyThough cloudy, I enjoyed this morning’s walk a lot. It had the cool, crispness to it that makes you feel more awake.

Unlike yesterday, quite a few joggers, walkers and cyclists came out to play on the trails this morning. A special moment came when a border collie dashed excitedly around the trail, attempting to sniff anything and everything at once.

He ran up to me and stopped right in front of me, completely halting my walk for a moment. I almost reached out to pet him, but his owner didn’t look too friendly. Of course, he didn’t mind. He ran off about three seconds later, and I could just imagine what was going through his mind:

“We’re on a walk! We’re on a – Smells! New smells! Walkies! Oh, I love walkies. Look at that! Wow! Person! Ooooh, new smell. SMELLS! I LOVE WALKIES!”

So adorable. You just can’t help but smile.

I truly wish we had a dog. I’d love to have the wild exuberance and enthusiasm around me all the time.

Do you have a dog? What are your walks like?

The 'Rain' in 'Rain or Shine'

Having started my new walking routine in Australia during the winter, I have been quite fortunate to have not gotten rained on during any of my morning walks so far.

Alas, today I traded the hand weights for the umbrella and got out there.

I’m quite proud of myself for having gotten out there on a rainy morning (of course it’s bright and sunny now). I had the thought that I could just put in some time on my elliptical, but I can’t go for a half hour on there, not to mention I’m trying to establish a habit here, people.

Besides the humidity on the last quarter of my walk, I actually didn’t mind walking in the rain. The bike/walking paths were blissfully empty.

For some reason, the rain brought out the – erm – ‘strong animal scents’ along the trail, but they didn’t last long. (Thank goodness!)

I’m still struggling a little with the whole food and mood things, but that’ll get sorted out. I’m just glad I got out there this morning!

Plus one exercise diva points.

Morning Walk – Day Three

hikingThis morning I got up early to go for my morning walk. It was a gorgeous, sunny morning (and has continued to be a beautiful day) and I almost regretted going out in my sweater. It’s still winter, but things are definitely warming up Down Under.

I saw a strange sight on my walk…

I don’t know about you, but where I am from, ducks stay on the ground.

Sure, they can fly. They fly around the water, the air, they fly south each winter. But they nest on the ground. They walk/waddle on the ground. Eat on the ground or in the water.

Today I saw not one but three ducks in a tree. A tree.

I have the feeling I am the only person who will find this weird, but where I am from, ducks to not go in trees. They just don’t. I couldn’t believe my eyes for a bit this morning, but there they were. Three ducks on a tree branch. A really, really tall tree branch, at that.

Are Australian ducks just weird or were the ducks we raised growing up just really unadventurous?

Weird…

I need to start bringing the camera on walks.

Checking In – Starting Anew

cupWow. It’s still so different for me to be putting this here instead of at my old site. Sure, it’s great that I can now post however much (or little) I want and I can make posts any length I want, too. But it is different.

I don’t have everything moved over just yet, but I’m going to be working on that today. I can’t wait to get my own URL and such for this, but it’s looking like that will have to wait until next week at the very least.

On to the good stuff!

Starting: 264
Last Week: 224
Current: 224

Weight Loss so Far: 40 pounds

I actually saw a loss last week, but I’m back up again after heaps of stress and a weekend of not so great choices. That’s one of the reasons I set up here so quickly – I realised just how much I rely on the support network of health/fitness bloggers.

I saw how close I was to getting into the 210s, saw how much weight I’ve lost, and I gave myself a reality check. Sure, things are a bit crazy, but I will not gain back that weight. I am so, so close to being in a weight range I haven’t been in since my early teens, and I refuse to screw that up.

I started going for morning walks yesterday. Exercise has always been my weak point when it comes to losing weight, and my dietician gently reminded me last week that I should be getting at least thirty minutes a day in – especially given my work, which involves sitting at a computer for long periods.

I am fortunate to have a number of walking/biking trails nearby so I get to have a touch of nature while I’m out walking.

Right now I’m just trying to establish the habit, so I’m not pushing myself too much. I am walking with my hand weights, though, so that should help with muscle building and fat burning.

I was thinking about joining The Fabulous Fatties Challenge, but I just have so much going on with building this place up, trying to get a couple websites going, looking for more work…

I’m so on board for the next challenge, though. I’ve put their blog in my feed reader so I can get started right away on the next one. :)

On a mildly amusing (to me) side note…

I’ve always said that I could never be straight vegetarian because I like meat too much. Well, after doing the first phase of the meal replacement (when you can’t eat any meat), I have found myself transformed into a semi-vegetarian.

I’ll eat meat – and seafood! – but I have cut down by huge amounts. I am totally digging the veggie burgers and other veggie-made products. They even have vege cold cuts! I love wrapping them around gherkins/pickles. Yum!

I hope everyone else is doing well!
